Updated over 2 months ago

Filezilla is one of the most popular, as well as the easiest way to use the Torbox FTP. This guide will walk you through the simple steps to access the FTP over Filezilla. There are other FTP apps we will also go over in other guides.

Prerequisites

  • Have files inside of your TorBox account

Supported Devices

  • Windows, MacOS, and Linux Computers

Read-Only

TorBox has a read-only filesystem! You cannot upload or edit files inside of TorBox. You are also not able to rename, or delete files through the FTP server.

Text Guide

  1. Make sure you have files on your TorBox account. You will still be able to login, but you won't be able to actually try it!

  2. Download Filezilla from their download page here. It will pre-select your device, but you may want to click the "Show additional download options" link. Make sure it is fully operational before continuing to the next step, you may need to reboot your device.

  3. In the top left there will be a server icon. Click that an a window named "Site manager" will show up.

  4. Click on the "New site" button. On the right side, everything should be editable.

  5. For protocol, choose "FTP - File Transfer Protocol". It should be the default option.

  6. For Host, type, "ftp.torbox.app", and for Port type "21". This is the standard FTP port. Keep encryption as "Use explicit FTP over TLS if available". At this point it should look like the below screenshot:

  7. Now, add your TorBox credentials. These will be the same email and password you use to login to the TorBox website. Keep Logon Type as "Normal", and for User, type your TorBox email. For Password, type your TorBox password. At this point it should look like the below screenshot:

  8. Click the "Connect" button to test the connection. This will close the window, and show the file manager. If everything was inputted correctly your files should be on the right side.

  9. If you get a new window that looks like the below, telling you about an "Unknown Certificate", verify that it has "*.torbox.app" in the common name, like the below screenshot. If it does, you have to click the "OK" button to use the FTP server.

  10. You can go back and edit the connection, such as renaming it, or even changing the background color! To reconnect to it in the future, simply click on the connection and click the "Connect" button again.

  11. To transfer files and folders, simply navigate to where you want the files on your computer, and drag the folder or file over. It will begin transferring in the queue at the bottom of the screen.
