How To: Get Notifications Using RSS Feed and IFTTT

RSS feeds are very powerful, and TorBox allows you to receive notifications of your account using RSS feeds.

Updated this week

TorBox allows you to get an RSS feed of your notifications allowing nearly infinite customization. With specifically IFTTT, you can turn this notification to do any action. For example, if you get a notification, send yourself a push notification. Or if you get a notification, turn on a light in your house. Crazy right? This guide will go over how to set up your RSS feed from TorBox with IFTTT so you can do anything with the notification.

Prerequisites

  • An IFTTT account.

Text Guide

  1. First make sure you are logged into IFTTT. Then navigate here where you can create a new RSS feed applet.

  2. On this screen, the first thing you need to do is click "If This". This is where you will select the RSS feed and enter in the specific details.

  3. Now find the "RSS Feed" option and select it.

  4. Now it will ask you to choose a trigger. We want to get a notification every time a new item is added, so choose "New feed item". Click on it.

  5. Next you will need to get your RSS feed URL from TorBox. Go to the TorBox settings, and scroll down to the notifications settings, and make sure "RSS Feed Notifications" are enabled. Once it is, click "Copy RSS Feed URL".

  6. Now take this URL and paste it into the RSS Feed URL box. Make sure you include the entire URL, including the ?token= part. Then click "Create Trigger".

  7. Next you will be brought back to the main screen where you now choose a "Then That". This can be anything, it's up to you. In this guide we will go over push notifications to a mobile device, but there are infinite things you can do.

  8. For this guide we will use the IFTTT mobile app to receive notifications. Search or find "Notifications" and click on it.

  9. There are a few different options here depending on what you want the notification to look like. Because there isn't much data from the notification, we will choose the "Send a notification from the IFTTT app" option.

  10. For the message we want to customize it a little bit so we can see the notification without having to click on it. To change this, click on the text box for "Message" and enter the following (you may customize it as you see fit).

    New TorBox Notification

    {{EntryTitle}}

    {{EntryContent}}

  11. Click "Create Action" to save the edited message. On the new screen click "Continue" to save the entire applet. On the next screen name and click "Finish" to save.

  12. Next, you will need to download the IFTTT mobile app to receive the notifications on your mobile device. When installed, login to the same account. Make sure to allow notifications from the app on your mobile device.

  13. To test that everything is set up correctly, click "Send Test Notification" in the TorBox settings. If everything is correct, you will receieve a push notification on your device (or any other integration you have set up).

  14. It may take a few minutes for the notification to show up, due to IFTTT only checking RSS feeds periodically.
