My Torrent Is Slow Or Won't Load

TorBox satellites can be overloaded sometimes.

Updated over 3 months ago

There can be many reasons for a torrent to be slow. Sometimes it could be the seeds or your peers. Sometimes it can be the satellites that are acting slow. Remember, this is a shared service, and depending on the entire satellite cluster load, torrents can move slow at times.

Reasons for slow downloading torrents:

  • There might not be enough seeds for a fast torrent download

    • Try a different torrent, or try a different tracker. Sometimes some trackers may not have a good number of seeds.

    • Just wait it out, sometimes it takes awhile for seed discovery to take place.

  • Sometimes if there are a large selection of seeds, you might get connected to a bad hoard of seeds, which can lead to slower than expected speeds, even if there are a lot of them.

    • Try reannouncing the torrent. This will refresh the seeds and possibly give you a better selection with more speed.

    • If you really can't handle the slow speeds, you could delete the torrent, and try again. There aren't really good solutions to this, and we are working on ways to get around bad hoards.

  • The satellite network is overloaded. While this is not common, and we try to keep loads under 80% max capacity for max speeds, there are always spikes of downloads at certain times, which are unpredictable. We are always allocating more satellites to get around this problem, but it is always a possibility.

    • Just wait this out. The network isn't always overloaded, and will return to normal soon.

    • Upgrade your plan. If you are on the Free plan, your speeds are already reduced, so if things are already operating slowly, your speeds will be even less.

Reasons for stalled torrents:

  • This is likely the tracker. If you are on a private tracker, make sure they allow shared IP's, and allow clients on port 65000-650XX (Any range in between).

    • If this is not acceptable with your tracker, you could purchase the Dedicated IP addon, which gives you your own IP to download and seed from.

  • No seeds. If there are no seeds there won't be any way to download it. If you got it from a forum, try requesting a reseed from the owner, or try a different torrent.

Reasons for constant loading, no upload or download activity, or no activity on the dashboard:

  • You may sometimes notice that your torrents are not updating, and nothing is changing. This could be for a few reasons. The first, most common one is that you aren't connected to the satellite network. If you aren't connected to the network (the status of which can be found under the Downloads text in the dashboard), you won't be able to receive updates on your torrent. Make sure there is a green dot, located next to the text that should be saying: On network with XX others.

  • Sometimes, the updates are a little slow. During times of high activity our relays have to process everyone's updates at the same time, and while we have scaled this process to a point it should never be a problem, it still can be, so the processing time can take a bit.

  • Sometimes, the download really is just taking a second to load. You may see other torrents updating just fine, but a specific one is not. This can be annoying, but sometimes, the servers could be in high demand, and it takes a second to put your torrent on the satellite. It will load soon, just a little later than expected.

  • If you are inactive for more than 30 seconds, the website will stop giving you updates due to the waste in bandwidth. Simply click somewhere on the page to become active again and start receiving updates again.

    • This was done to save bandwidth for you and TorBox.

  • If you are outside of the tab, the website will also stop giving you updates as to not waste bandwidth. Simply go back to the TorBox page tab and start receiving updates again.

  • If you have waited for awhile, and you are connected fine to the relay, it could be a problem with the satellite or the torrent. Make sure your torrent is working and has enough seeds (we recommend at least 3). If all else fails, please don't hesitate to contact us at [email protected].
