Why Am I Being Charged Multiple Times?

If you're seeing multiple charges from TorBox on your card or bank statement, don't panic.

When your payment doesn't go through the first time

The most common reason for multiple charges is that TorBox is trying to collect a payment that initially failed. Payment discrepancies can also arise from AVS (address verification) mismatches or card verification issues when your billing information doesn't align with your card issuer's records.

When your subscription payment gets declined (card expired, spending limit, no money, or bank blocking), TorBox doesn't give up on attempting to collect it's owed payments. Instead, it keeps trying to charge your card over the next week, sometimes every few hours, sometimes every few days. This automatic retry system, also called dunning, is designed to give your payment the best chance of eventually going through. Additionally, when payments fail due to AVS mismatches or other issues, temporary authorizations may appear on your account. These are usually resolved by your bank within 3–7 business days.

You may see "Pending" charges

You might see several "pending" charges on your bank account, which may looks scary, but if the payment actually failed, that money will come back to your account automatically. These pending charges don't mean money has actually left your account, they're just your bank's way of showing that someone attempted to charge your card. These appear as authorization holds, where banks temporarily hold the amount to validate the transaction but later release it, typically within 3–7 business days.

Catching up on older missed payments

Sometimes you might get charged for previous months you thought you skipped. Let's say your card got declined all through April and TorBox eventually stopped trying. In May, you update your payment method and everything works again. TorBox will now try to collect that April payment you never actually paid, plus your current May payment. That's why you might see what looks like a "double charge".

In general, multiple charges usually mean either TorBox is still trying to process a failed payment (and the pending charges will disappear), or you're catching up on a previous month that you never paid. If you're still concerned about specific charges, contact TorBox support with your payment details, including your TorBox email, and the last 4 digits of your card number so we can help you as fast as possible.

Preventive Tips

  • Ensure all card details are accurate before submitting payment.

  • Avoid immediate retries if a payment fails to prevent duplicative holds.

  • Regularly review your statement to monitor temporary and actual charges. To resolve issues effectively, you can: 1) Wait for the authorization holds to release automatically within 3–7 business days. 2) Double-check that your billing address matches your card issuer’s records to avoid AVS mismatches. 3) Use a physical card instead of a virtual or prepaid card as these may cause authorization issues. 4) Avoid multiple subscription attempts by only submitting your payment once.
